SMMA has awarded a combined $5,000 in scholarship funds to four high school seniors as part of the annual SMMA Fund. All four recipients graduated this year from Massachusetts high schools designed by SMMA, and will be attending college this fall.
The 2023 Fund recipients stood out for their academic achievements and leadership both inside and outside of school. Their volunteer work included packing free lunches for homeless people and local children, organizing a charity walk for the American Cancer Society, and coaching at youth soccer programs.
Now in its thirteenth year, the SMMA Fund offers financial aid to high school seniors attending schools designed by SMMA. The Fund supports students’ continued education in a field of design that contributes to the built environment, such as architecture, engineering, and interior design. Since 2010, SMMA has awarded 59 scholarships totaling more than $65,000 to students from 17 high schools.
The 2023 recipients are:
- Mary Doherty, Quincy High School—University of Connecticut, Civil Engineering
- Caroline Phieffer, Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School— Savannah College of Art and Design, Interior Design
- Lindsey Steele, Bedford High School—Endicott College, Interior Design
