SMMA has announced eight new promotions, including three new Senior Associates and five new Associates. The promoted group represents a diverse range of disciplines across SMMA’s integrated design practice, including architecture, engineering, human resources, marketing, project management, and sustainable design.
These promotions recognize those who demonstrate exceptional technical expertise, reliability, collaboration, and commitment to both clients and colleagues.
At SMMA’s recent all-hands meeting, Christine Fleming, Director of Human Resources noted the significance of these promotions, emphasizing the high level of thought and consideration that goes into the selection process. “With so many talented individuals here, it’s not an easy decision,” she said, “but it is very exciting to recognize a number of outstanding individuals.”
Senior Associates

Rosemary Park, an Educational Planner, has been promoted to Senior Associate.
“Rosemary is dedicated to advancing the quality of SMMA’s educational planning expertise while serving as a fantastic resource and mentor within the firm,” said Nick Koulbanis, Senior Vice President and Director of Architecture. “She is wonderful in a room of educators, gaining their trust through thoughtful programming dialogue while helping develop architecture that supports educational goals. Rosemary’s strong sense of empathy for educators as well as her expertise in the subject matter is readily apparent to our clients.”

Peter Rebuck, a Senior Civil Engineer, has been promoted to Senior Associate.
“Peter consistently demonstrates exceptional technical expertise in permitting, stormwater and utility design, and coordination.” said Erin Prestileo, Principal and Director of Site Design. “He takes ownership of projects, proactively addresses challenges, and is a trusted mentor to younger staff. Even under pressure, Peter remains steady, adaptable, and collaborative. Within the firm, he is trusted across all disciplines for his reliability, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to helping teams succeed.”

Kelly Sanborn, a Project Manager, has been promoted to Senior Associate.
“Kelly provides a remarkable vigor and steadfast presence throughout projects which gives our clients great confidence that highly competent leadership is driving and guiding the work forward through every phase,” said Steve Vincent, Principal and Director of Project Management. “She builds trust and respect among teammates and clients alike, communicates constantly with her teams, and serves as a role model through her professionalism, accountability, and commitment to SMMA’s values.”
Associates

Zack Blais, an Architect, has been promoted to Associate.
“Since joining SMMA, Zack has grown significantly as a designer and is demonstrating clear potential as an emerging leader,” said Nick Koulbanis. “Zack is a strong representative of SMMA’s design work with clients, an effective mentor to junior staff, and has taken the initiative to lead our model shop and Rhino Users Group while continuing to progress his own professional development.”

Brenda Lam, a Sustainable Design Project Coordinator, has been promoted to Associate.
“Brenda has championed support for our sustainability efforts across our institutional and corporate and commercial markets,” said Martine Dion, Principal and Director of Sustainable Design. “From LEED administration and embodied carbon analysis to health and wellness initiatives, her expertise, leadership, and commitment have been instrumental in helping our teams deliver successful outcomes on some of our most complex projects. Internally, Brenda strengthens SMMA’s knowledge management initiatives, developing integrated sustainable design resources that support our firm as a whole.”

Maria MacDonald, a Human Resources Generalist, has been promoted to Associate.
“Maria takes full ownership of her responsibilities and is a trusted resource for employees across the firm,” said Christine Fleming, Senior Associate and Director of Human Resources. “She navigates complex benefits, leave, and HR systems with persistence and care, while making people feel comfortable, supported, and confident in her ability to find solutions. One-on-one with staff is where Maria truly shines, bringing positivity, professionalism, and thoughtful guidance to every interaction and serving as a trusted advocate for all employees.”

Lauren Martin, a Senior Proposal Lead, has been promoted to Associate.
“Lauren’s commitment to excellence is evident in both the quality and impact of her work, “said Tracey O’Connor, Senior Associate and Marketing Manager. “She consistently demonstrates exceptional leadership, accountability, and resilience as she guides complex proposal efforts across SMMA’s diverse markets. Lauren is a trusted collaborator who builds strong relationships across teams and brings diverse perspectives together to create compelling client responses that showcase the very best of SMMA. Her dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to our team has made a tremendous impact.”

Brian Wan, a Senior Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineer, has been promoted to Associate.
“Brian is a natural collaborator and planner who is consistently organized to advance his project designs and support coordination across disciplines,” said Andy Oldeman, Senior Vice President and Director of Engineering. “He is a clear and respectful communicator and has taken on a growing leadership role within the engineering group as a mentor while continuing to strengthen his technical expertise. It is gratifying to see his growth as an emerging leader in our MEP group.”
