The SMMA Fund Awards Four Scholarships to High School Seniors

SMMA’s annual scholarship program has selected four high school seniors as the firm’s 2020 scholarship recipients.

Since its establishment in 2010, the SMMA Fund has awarded a total of 44 college scholarships to high school students from the communities where the firm has designed high school facilities. Through the provision of financial assistance to seniors who are pursuing careers in design-related fields, we honor the built environment and our commitment to furthering the profession.

This year’s recipients demonstrated leadership both academically and in their communities through programs such as the National Honor Society, peer tutoring, theater, music, sports, science and the arts, and volunteering with community service organizations.

The 2020 recipients are:

  • George Sachs-Walor, Hudson High School - Merrimack College; Civil Engineering
  • Benjamin Santeufemio, North Middlesex Regional High School - Merrimack College School of Science and Engineering; Civil and Mechanical Engineering
  • Jonathan Yiu, Winchester High School - Wentworth Institute of Technology; Civil Engineering
  • Shay Mitton, Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School – Worcester Polytechnic Institute; Electrical Engineering

"We [the Committee] were very impressed with the passion and excitement these students have for their future studies in the built environment and their dreams of enriching their communities."

Heather McCormack, Senior Associate and Director of Administration

Congratulations to those recipients; we look forward to seeing all you accomplish!
