SMMA is pleased to announce the promotions of Andy Oldeman, PE to the firm’s Board of Directors and Nick Koulbanis, AIA to Vice President. 

Oldeman, a mechanical engineer and Senior Vice President, joined SMMA in 2002. He has served as SMMA’s Director of Engineering since 2008, leading some of SMMA’s most challenging engineering projects while mentoring young and mid-career professionals. 

“I am thrilled to welcome Andy to the SMMA Board of Directors,” said Ara Krafian, President and CEO. “He has long represented the best of our firm through his respectful nature, his advocacy for cross-discipline collaboration, and his leadership with projects and clients. Andy embodies the core values and ethos that we need to succeed as an independent firm long into the future.” 

Koulbanis, an architect, has served as SMMA’s Director of Architecture since 2023 and also leads the firm’s Higher Education market. His broad expertise stems from working with a diverse mix of universities, life science companies, and developers in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. 

“I welcome the appointment of Nick to Vice President,” said Krafian. “In addition to his substantial responsibilities as our Director of Architecture, Nick has been instrumental as a market leader as we continue to successfully grow our business and focus on meeting our highest potential. He represents the type of inspiring participation that we have seen from our talented leadership team.”
