Passion for the Complex

Ed joined SMMA after admiring the firm for years. He brings extensive experience working on complex building projects—including Boston’s award-winning Macallen Building and the Canton (MA) Public Library—as well as his lifelong interest in historic architecture.

“My favorite design challenges are those that involve existing buildings: renovating them, adding on to them, restoring them,” says Ed. “I find that these types of projects often necessitate larger, more diverse groups of people working together from the very beginning. These groups produce remarkably innovative, interesting ideas.”

Growing the Providence Office

“My roots are in the Providence area,” says Ed. “I was thrilled at the opportunity to grow this office. We have a remarkable team here, a great balance between architecture and engineering. And everyone is able to gain valuable experience in lots of different project types and phases.”

“When we focus on communication,” he says, “I find that this office offers the best of both worlds: the flexibility and opportunities of a smaller firm with the resources of a larger one.”
