Darling and McCormack Announced as Principals at SMMA
January 17, 2024
SMMA has announced two promotions to the role of principal: architect and Design Technology Manager Dave Darling, and Director of Administration Heather McCormack.
Last night, a talented group of SMMA employees took to the Boston Convention Center to represent the firm at one of our favorite events: the International Interior Design Association of New England’s annual Fashion Show. A celebration of the creative abilities of the region’s top design professionals, the evening marked the culmination of several months of planning, coordination, and production efforts for the SMMA team.
We are happy to announce that our Bancroft Elementary School project was selected as a People’s Choice Award winner—for Favorite Space to Study—in this year’s AIA New England Design Awards. The design of the 99,000-square-foot school recalls the traditional New England-style architecture of the surrounding rural community.
SMMA’s association with the Lyceum Fellowship—a program established by our founder, Jon McKee, to “advance the development of the next generation of talent by creating a vehicle for stimulating perceptive reasoning”—is something in which we take an enormous amount of pride. The program, now in its 30th year, rewards the best of what we aspire to as designers of the built environment—curiosity, creativity, and the unyielding desire to challenge the status quo and push design thinking forward.
Swampscott High School is a project that stands out in SMMA’s portfolio of successful K-12 designs—it incorporates numerous elements of sustainable thinking, takes advantage of existing natural site features, and blends contextually into the cultural fabric of the Town. It was also completed nearly a decade ago.
