In response to Providence College's desire to create a “community of innovation and impact,” SMMA’s design for the School of Business embraces the metaphor of crossroads and intersections. This layered concept operates on three levels in defining an environment supportive of the rich and complex network of relationships that foster community and the development of leadership skills essential to business innovation and ethical social action.
SMMA is inspired when working closely with universities and colleges to help them advance their educational mission. By embracing their goals and developing a unique understanding of each institution's needs, our team designs spaces that enhance the campus experience and respond to a new generation of active and digitally oriented learners and educators.
University campuses are departing from conventional spaces to embrace diverse choices in educational and social environments. As a research-based firm, SMMA understands the stakeholder engagement needs of the academic world. We work in partnership with colleges and universities to achieve consensus among administration, faculty, students, and donors.
Stewardship and Transformation
Our architects, engineers, master planners, and landscape architects work in harmony with campus architects and facilities professionals to achieve a shared stewardship and a holistic transformation of institutional buildings and landscapes. The results are completed projects inspired by and aligned with the missions, cultures, and traditions of our higher education clients.
