White River Junction US Armed Forces Reserve CenterWhite River Junction, Vermont |
OverviewThe US Armed Forces Reserve Center Complex in White River Junction, Vermont is comprised of six buildings, including a 51,000 sf Training Building, a 6,000 sf Organizational Maintenance Shop, two Unheated Storage Buildings, a 14,900 sf Unheated Vehicle Storage Building, and a Pump House Building—all to be occupied by the United States Army Reserve and Vermont National Guard. Designed in accordance with the US Army Corps of Engineers specifications and standards, all buildings were designed to meet the 2006 International Building Code, ADA-AG, UFC, AT/FP, AR and all relevant military criteria so required, and all other required codes. Sustainable design practices were incorporated into the architectural design and engineering as appropriate. The buildings and site were designed to meet the criteria established by the US Green Building Council’s Green Building Rating System for New Construction Version 2.2 “LEED Silver” level of certification. The variety of specifications involved in the design required clear, effective communication and coordination, which SMMA was easily able to provide. The barn design motif of the White River Junction AFRC is reminiscent of Vermont’s rural character, while providing the National Guard and Army Reserve with a first rate, sustainable facility with LEED Silver certification. The building has received wide spread acclaim for successfully melding high level architecture and engineering with energy and cost conscious design |
