Project Description: The Farwell Read Block, owned by Cambridge Savings Bank, consists of four buildings, dating from 1780 to 1820, that were unified behind a common facade in 1896. Almost a century later, SMMA's renovation preserved a portion of the existing structure, renovated the remainder, and refreshed the entire facade to reflect its 1896 appearance. The completed facility includes 30,000 sf of retail space on three levels and 10,000 sf of office space on the top floor. The renovation of this historic landmark in Harvard Square was recognized with an AIA New England Chapter Award.
