SMMA's culture of service and integration is reflected in our project approach and our professional environment.

Core teams serve as knowledge centers to promote our understanding of trends and issues relevant to clients. The specialized skills and diverse expertise of our planners, architects, engineers, and interior designers collectively provide complete, integrated solutions to each project.

Collaboration drives our practice. Teams are supported by design and information technology, sophisticated internal systems and processes, and internal experts in such areas as sustainable design, laboratory design, and tel/data.

Our Cambridge location provides us easy access to one of America's intellectual and creative centers, and in Providence we are in the heart of the Downtown district. Our professional environment is similarly fast-paced, entrepreneurial, and collegial. We encourage leadership at all levels, and interaction across all disciplines, through formal practices (such as firm-wide project Lessons Learned sessions) and time-honored customs (Friday morning espresso+bagel at the SMMA Café.)

Having embarked on our next 50 years in 2005, the firm continues to balance experience and innovation in a way that invigorates our people, our processes, and our products.
