Christine Fleming Joins SMMA as Director of Human Resources

SMMA is pleased to announce the appointment of Christine Fleming as the firm’s new Director of Human Resources.

Christine joins SMMA with over 15 years’ experience in HR management for professional service firms, creative agencies, and high-growth companies in Massachusetts.

“I've been fortunate to be working in HR during a time when the focus of the role has transitioned so much,” says Christine. “It went from something very tactical and service-focused to being a real business partner and supporting people to be their best selves at work. And I love that I get to be the person to help drive that at SMMA.”

“There’s so many great things happening here. This is my first employee-owned organization, but I can see the tenure of so many folks here and the commitment that they have to each other and to their clients. There seems to be an aptitude for working at the highest level—elevating the design, elevating the level of service, elevating the people.”

As HR Director, Christine will play a crucial role in putting talent and people at the heart of SMMA’s future strategic planning. This will include a greater focus on employee engagement, talent management, and career development. She will also lead the firm’s efforts to attract, engage, and celebrate employees while fostering an environment of inclusion and belonging.

“Growing up I really liked to write, so I majored in English with a minor in communications. My first job out of college was at a publishing company, but the position was in human resources. That’s where I found my true calling, which was the people.”

Before joining SMMA, Christine spent 12 years in human resources at marketing agency Cramer, an SMMA client. “I loved the creativity and passion that people had for their craft. It’s something that SMMA also has in abundance, which really sold me. I want to be excited about where I was going to go to work every day.”

“I am so pleased that Christine has joined SMMA as Director of Human Resources,” says Brian Lawlor, Chief Operating Officer. “She brings a wealth of experience, ideas, and creativity to the role. Christine is such an engaging person and has instantly established a rapport across the firm. I am delighted that Christine will be such an important part of our continued focus on our people and our clients.”
