Poinelli Recieves CEFPI Award

SMMA’s Philip J. Poinelli, FAIA, CEFP, LEED AP, was recently honored with a Service of Distinction Award by the Council of Educational Facility Planners International, at the organization’s annual Northeast Regional Conference.

Phil Poinelli received the award in recognition of his role on the regional Board of Directors over the past four years. He has been actively involved with CEFPI since 2007, having served as Co-Chair of its annual regional conference in 2011, Vice President of the Northeast Region from 2010 to 2011, Regional President-Elect from 2011 to 2012, and Regional President from 2012 to 2013. Presently, he is the organization’s Regional Immediate Past President.

“Phil’s enthusiasm for the profession is contagious and his professionalism is unmatched,” said Robert J. Hendriks III, APR, CEFP, current Vice President of CEFPI’s Northeast Region. “But what I love about him most is his willingness to share his deep knowledge and wisdom with all of us. He is the most generous professional that I have ever worked with in a professional organization. For him, it is not about keeping the secrets, but sharing them to benefit our profession. I have personally benefited from his largesse, and so have many others.”

Phil earned the Certified Educational Facility Planner credential in 2012, and was named a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects in the same year. His more than 40 years’ industry experience have focused almost exclusively on K-12 educational environments. Phil currently leads all educational facilities planning for SMMA.
